Australia - USA connectivity test

This document shows a simple way to test your store’s current internet speed to key IoT and card processing servers in west coast USA, over the “submarine cables” used by your internet provider (like TPG, Telstra, Spark, or 2Degrees).
It helps show if any machine issues, or slow Tangerpay performance, at a store are being caused by problems on the Australia - USA route with their internet provider.

Before you begin

Make sure your phone or computer is connected to the Wi-Fi network on the modem inside your store. This is very important to troubleshoot internet connectivity issues inside your store. If you are using the phone, make sure your mobile data is turned off and your phone is not connecting to the internet over 4G.

Running the test

1. Download the Speedtest by Ookla phone app or go to  https://www.speedtest.net
2. Wait for the page to load - you’ll see a big “GO” button in the centre of the screen.
3. Click on the server name - just below the GO button, you’ll see a small location and name - for example: Server: Brisbane - Telstra. Click on that name (or tap it if you’re on your phone).
4. A list of servers will appear. Scroll or search for "Los Angeles, CA" - pick Boost Mobile
5. Start the test - click or tap the big “GO” button.
6. Wait for the results:
  • The test will take about 30 seconds.
  • You’ll see three numbers:
  • Ping (ms) – Measures connection delay; under 200 ms is good for USA
  • Download (Mbps) – How fast you can receive data
  • Upload (Mbps) – How fast you can send data
7. What the results mean:
  • The numbers below represent good result for Australia → USA
  • Ping 140–200 ms
  • Download Depends on your plan (e.g., 50 Mbps+)
  • Upload Should be similar to local tests
  • If the ping is very high (e.g. 300–500ms) or download speed is very low compared to local tests, there may be a routing or submarine cable issue with your ISP.

Take a screenshot and share the results with your ISP and  service@tangerpay.com .

A good temporary work around, would be to temporarily use the 4G backup service from your provider if you have it, or to temporarily use a 4G service from a different provider. In Tangerpay’s experience, most internet providers tend to take between 4-12 hours to resolve outages of this type.
